Da Vinci Robot at Lister Hospital
The Stefanou Foundation, in conjunction with Stelio Stefanou's brother, Stef, and the North East Herts Health Authority, has funded the purchase of a Da Vinci robot.
This makes urological surgery far less invasive and more accurate. In particular, it transforms operations to remove prostate cancer.
Patients make a faster recovery, often within 24 hours. The increased safety makes surgery the best option for many patients who would otherwise have been treated with long-term drugs.
Despite the health benefits and long-term value for money offered by Da Vinci robots, relatively few exist in the UK. The co-funding provided by the Foundation and Stef Stefanou unlocked sufficient NHS funding to enable the purchase to go ahead in Hertfordshire
